Luminous Youth with the support of the Institute of Noetic Science is creating a space for 9+ year olds to continue learning through a lense of curiosity, awe, reflection and practice. The ‘Worldview Matters!’ program supports learners individually and collectively to become more aware of our own worldviews and their importance.
This program runs over 20 weeks on Tuesdays during the school term.
Learners aged 9 – 12 years old | 4pm – 5pm.
Learners aged 13 – 15 years old | 5pm – 6pm.
Through this journey of experiential inquiry, reflection and journaling, and exploratory adventuring into ourselves and others.
Each week Paul Crebar from Luminous Youth will lead an exploration into Worldview Literacy.
What is Worldview Literacy?
Worldview literacy is the capacity to investigate our own and others’ worldviews, recognize how worldviews filter all of our perceptions and therefore our reactions and actions with others, and explore how our individual and collective worldviews affect how we interact and influence the world around us. What does the program involve?
Together over the 20 class program as a group of 6 learners facilitated by Paul we will:
- Explore, discuss and reflect on what shapes our own and others Worldview in a safe, supportive and held environment
- Recognize how worldviews filter all of our perceptions and therefore our reactions and actions with others
- Explore how our individual and collective worldviews affect how we interact and influence the world around us
- Explore perspectives and beliefs, instinct & brain structure, self-regulation, multiple intelligences, assumptions & stereotypes
- Explore cultural conditioning and media influence, interdependency, interconnectedness promises and pitfalls and what it may mean to be of service
- Focus on social and emotional learning practices including the development of self awareness, social-awareness, relationship skills, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making.
Additionally, the goal of Worldview Explorations is to give learners tools for success in the 21st century. Some of those tools include:
- Cognitive flexibility
- Comfort with unfamiliarity
- Appreciation of diverse perspectives
- Agility in the face of rapidly changing circumstances
- Capacities for inter-cultural communication
- Ability to hold multiple points of view simultaneously
- Capacity for discernment that relies equally on intellect and intuition
- Conflict resolution
- Social-emotional intelligence
This program has been crafted by the Institute of Noetic Science (IONS) who’s development of this educational initiative has grown out of four decades of research on the exploration of consciousness and worldview. The research suggests the most powerful step people can take toward achieving their highest potential is the willingness and ability to understand new perspectives. This evidence-based curriculum fosters the necessary capacity and competency to understand a multitude of perspectives to navigate and thrive in a global society.
The cost for this program is $15 per class + one off cost of $15 for the IONS workbook. 15% of all bookings is invested into interconnectivity research with the not-for-profit organisation the Institute of Noetic Science.
The Core Tenets of Worldview Explorations as written by the Institue of Noetic Science
Worldview Explorations is based on a developmental model designed as a result of research on consciousness and transformation. The following are a set of principles upon which the content of this curriculum was designed:
Each of Us Conveys a Unique Worldview
Our life experiences, culture, religion, socioeconomic status, gender, biology, environment, family, and friends, among other things, influence our unique worldview. We each see and sense the world differently based upon our personal beliefs, perspectives, and worldview. Most of the time, these worldviews function outside of our conscious awareness.
Worldviews Inform and Affect Our Reality
Worldviews not only impact how we understand and make sense of the world around us but also influence how we express ourselves in the world. The constellations of personal values, beliefs, assumptions, attitudes, and ideas that make up our worldview affect our goals and desires, relationships, and behaviors. The more aware we are of our worldview and the worldviews of others, the more effectively we can navigate through life.
There is Value in Paradox and Uncertainty
Once we are aware that it is possible for multiple worldviews to exist simultaneously, we will gain a better understanding that the goal is not being right, or proving someone wrong, but rather about becoming curious about other perspectives and possibilities. There is value in uncertainty, in the capacity to hold paradox, and in learning to dwell in the mysteries of life. It is from the place of not knowing that creativity emerges, and from which we can perceive the world as a place of awe, wonder, and reverence.
Our Consciousness Matters
Consciousness (awareness of one’s own existence, sensations, thoughts, surroundings, etc.) mediates the relationship between inner experience and the outer environment. The way we receive, interact with, and direct our intention into, the physical world invites us into our self-reflexive capacity and awareness of our creative potential. It also requires us to engage with others in respectful dialogue about how we are constructing our understanding of the world and making meaning in a way that assures a safer and healthier future for all.
There are Multiple Ways of Knowing
In addition to logic, reason, and scientific observation, other ways of knowing, such as inner knowing, intuition, and direct experience, also inform our perspective of the world around us. Identifying our strengths in multiple ways of knowing and sharing our experiences through interpersonal dialogue help us understand and appreciate our own worldview and that of others.
We are Part of an Interdependent Whole
We are part of a complex, ever-changing, interconnected, living universe. What we do influences the world around us, and the world around us influences us, even when we are not certain of exactly how. A greater understanding of the interdependence of all life leads to a more complete view of our place in the world.
